Somerset College has selected the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) as its Grade 9 and Matriculation examination provider, while following the National Curriculum Statements published by the Department of Education. Skills such as thinking, critical analysis, personal organisation, teamwork and communication are central to our teaching philosophy.
Somerset College proudly presents the IEB Senior Certificate examination results for the Class of 2019. True to Somerset College tradition, the Class of 2019 achieved a 100% pass rate, not wavering from the example set by the first-ever Matric Class of 1999. Once again, Somerset College’s matrics have achieved an excellent set of results that reflect the hard work and commitment of both students and staff alike.
The average number of matric distinctions over the past five years stands at three per student and confirms Somerset College’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence. In addition to this, the consistently outstanding Cambridge (CIE) AS and AL results, achieved every year since each level’s inception in the Cambridge stream, support the fact that Somerset College students continue to deliver outstanding academic work.

Message from Graham Sayer, Executive Head to the 2019 Matric year group:
“You have risen above the daunting challenges that came your way in 2019, mainly in the shape of illnesses and bereavement at an unprecedented rate, to produce an outstanding set of IEB matric results of which you should be very proud. We certainly are proud of you and of your teachers and parents, and all of those who supported you during your time as Somerset College students, and we are so pleased that you are now added to the ranks of our alumni. Many of you have spoken about how you found a second family here and have reflected on how you set yourselves the goal of extending that experience to your whole grade and beyond. That was a hugely ambitious goal. But, you have achieved it to an astonishing degree. And so, I think you can comfortably lay claim to courage and belonging as your twin legacies. Those are worth far more than marks, but enjoy the marks too. Well done matrics and we are sure you will look forward with us to what we confidently anticipate will be an equally impressive set of Cambridge AS and AL results.”
With a strong focus on academic excellence, our results speak for themselves, with a 100% pass record intact since the first Matrics of 1999, and an excellent rate of acceptance into university studies. Furthermore, our highest achieving students are regularly placed in the IEB examination’s national top 5 percent.
